Rafiq Counselling that walks alongside

How do I find purpose and passion in my life?

Purpose rarely lands in one bright moment. It grows from what you repeat and what costs you. Start small, test for energy, and bring it to counselling if you want company.

Short answer. Start by looking at what gives you energy across a normal week, then repeat the parts that matter. Purpose grows from practice and values you can explain to yourself. If you want company while you test things, counselling helps you stay honest and organised.

In short:

  • Purpose grows from repeated choices that match your values; track energy and repeat what matters.
  • Start with small, low-cost experiments and write what changed in you before anything shifts outside.
  • Counselling can help you stay honest and organised while you test; it does not diagnose or fix.
  • Astrology can offer language; treat it as a hypothesis and test it against your week.

What do I mean by purpose and passion?

Purpose is lived choices. It shows up as patterns you can see in your week, the work and relationships you keep saying yes to because they line up with your values, even when no one is clapping for you. Passion is the heat that makes sticking with it feel sensible rather than heroic. Some days it hums, on others it hides.

I do think purpose is built over time. You make meaning by doing and then noticing what it changed. If you want a slogan, this is mine: repeat what matters and drop what drains, even when it still looks impressive on paper. A steady loop beats drama.

Where do I start when nothing feels strong?

Look at last week. Open your calendar and bank statement, then mark the hours and spends that left you clearer and the ones that fogged you up. Put routine maintenance like laundry or bills in a separate bucket. Patterns appear when you draw boxes around them.

If nothing clears or warms you, check mood first. Low mood flattens passion and makes purpose look far away; this piece on Am I depressed or just bored? walks through the difference and small tests that reduce the guesswork. Bring that data to any first counselling session.

Make two bets now. One is subtracting a drain for two weeks, the other is adding one tiny action that hints at a value you respect, such as finishing a draft or calling a friend on purpose. Simple and demanding. Write what you changed on a single page.

What small experiments can I run this month?

Keep the stakes low. Experiments teach faster when they cost little and fit inside your week, then you measure something other than applause, like your energy at 6pm or the pull to return tomorrow, and the drag you feel when you schedule it again. You can adjust them mid-stream without guilt.

Here are ideas I see work in real adult lives. Run one or two, then write what changed in you rather than what changed on LinkedIn, because many purpose shifts start quietly before anything shows up outside. Pick a start date and a stop date.

  • The 20-minute skill: practise one craft daily for 20 minutes, timer on, result ignored.
  • Office hours for curiosity: hold two half-hours a week for reading or tinkering on a theme you care about.
  • Teach once: offer a tiny session to a peer group or team on something you can explain clearly.
  • Volunteer with guardrails: one shift at a local group, with a finish time you keep.
  • Energy audit: for seven days, rate each block of time 0-2 for energy after, then adjust next week's calendar by one block.

Does astrology help with purpose?

Astrology can feel steady. If a chart gives you language for strengths or constraints, treat it as a working hypothesis and then test it against your week, your body, and your calendar rather than only the story in your head. Ground it. Write what you observed before you ask for a new reading.

I do not read charts in sessions. My work is practical: naming the values you care about and the small choices you can test this month. Bring your beliefs; I will meet you where you are without selling you a system.

Who should skip this room for now, and where else to go?

Safety comes first today. If you are in immediate risk, call Tele-MANAS on 14416, which is India's free 24/7 helpline, or go to the nearest hospital and ask for emergency psychiatric support. Counselling is a slower room. If you are unsure whether it counts as urgent, call anyway.

If medication might matter, a psychiatrist is the right consult. I am not a doctor and cannot prescribe; when medication is worth considering I refer. If you want a diagnosis for paperwork or clarity, you need a clinician who assesses and writes reports. Counselling here keeps labels light and focuses on what you can try this week.

There are other organised ways to get help that fit different needs. MindPeers, Manastha, BetterLYF, and HopeQure run online counselling platforms. Untangle and Heart It Out focus on couples and relationship work. Wysa is an Indian AI-first app that can escalate to a human when needed.

  • Amaha: 15+ languages, 300+ cities; runs a psychiatric hospital in Bengaluru; its therapist tier requires an RCI-recognised M.Phil in Clinical Psychology.
  • Mindtalk / Cadabam's: 24/7 psychiatric and inpatient infrastructure in Bengaluru.
  • YourDOST: often free through an employer or university; supports 20+ Indian languages.
  • 1to1help: employer-provided counselling (an EAP), free to the employee.
  • DocVita: a marketplace with 17 languages; also has psychiatrists. TalktoAngel, Practo, TheMindClan: directories to compare many named practitioners.

What happens in counselling if you bring 'purpose'?

I am Satlaj Sachan, a counsellor in Bengaluru, practising since 2015. Adults roughly 25 to 45 work with me, in English and in Hindi, over video and in person in Bengaluru. In this room, Rafiq means the friend who walks with you; I do not diagnose and I do not promise to fix you.

Bring one real question. In early sessions we map values, energy, behaviours, and pressures, decide on two experiments, and decide how often to meet; this piece on How often do people go to therapy? explains patterns I see. If you are choosing between counsellor, therapist, or psychiatrist, read Counselling vs therapist: what do these words mean, and who should I see?.

I am not a doctor and cannot prescribe. If medication might help, I refer and we coordinate with the psychiatrist while you keep the behavioural work moving in a way that does not burn you out. Choosing another counsellor can be a good call too; the main thing is to talk to one and test what changes across a few ordinary weeks.

Common questions

How do I find purpose and passion in life?

Look at last week for energy, then run small tests that repeat what mattered. Explain to yourself why it matters, in ordinary words. Write it down and keep score for a few weeks. Counselling helps you decide what to test and what to drop, without assuming a grand calling must appear.

What if nothing excites me right now?

Check mood and sleep before you redesign your life. Low mood and burnout flatten interest and make everything look grey. This piece on Am I depressed or just bored? may help you sort that. If energy is very low, keep tests tiny and ask for company from a counsellor.

Can astrology tell me my purpose?

It can give you a story and some words for strengths or constraints. Treat that as a starting hypothesis. Then test it against your body, week, and calendar. Counselling here stays practical; I do not read charts, and I will ask what you saw change when you tried the idea.

Should I quit my job to chase passion?

Hold your income steady while you run experiments, unless safety or ethics are on the line. Build proof in small cycles first. When a pattern keeps giving energy and makes sense on paper, then plan the move with buffers. Counselling helps you reality-check the plan and notice what you are glossing over.

How often should I see a counsellor for this?

Weekly or fortnightly tends to keep momentum without turning your week upside down. This piece on How many times a week should I go to therapy? covers patterns I see. Some adults prefer a slower rhythm and document experiments between sessions. Choose what you can actually keep.
